Chinese Herbal Medicine

Since the beginning of civilization, plants and minerals have been used as medicine across the globe. Even today, over 40% of pharmaceutical medicines are derived directly from these botanical substances. Chinese Herbal Medicine combines plant substances in synergistic formulas which are carefully designed to both optimize effectiveness and minimize side effects.

Rather than treating a Western disease name (such as “Diabetes” or “Endometriosis”), Chinese Herbal Medicine (like all forms of Traditional Chinese Medicine) utilizes the whole-systems approach of Chinese medical theory. This approach addresses the root cause of a condition, not just the symptoms. As such, Chinese Medicine is perhaps the most personalized form of medicine on Earth.

During a health consultation at Waterfield Wellness, your practitioner will work with you to identify your specific treatment goals, make a thorough assessment and evaluation of your condition, and create a personalized program that addresses the underlying cause of your condition.

Chinese Herbal Medicine is often a centerpiece of this program, involving the prescription of one or more Chinese Herbal formulas. Sometimes the prescription is as simple as boiling a single raw herb such as ginger root and drinking the tea with meals. Other times it may involve taking an herbal extract powder with warm water, or a raw herb powder conveniently pre-packaged in teabags. Other forms of internal use herbs include capsules, caplets, and tinctures. Topically applied herbal formulas are also available in a variety of forms, including oils, salves, footsoaks, and more.
